Superhydrophobic Lubrication: Gas–Liquid Bilayer Reduces the Friction Between Two Solids

چکیده
Lubrication is one of the most important ways to reduce effect friction, which single largest cause for energy losses in society. Typically, friction reduction done by lubrication with petroleum-based oils, while technology focus shifting toward environmentally-friendly green lubrication. Lowest coefficients water-based have previously been achieved smooth surfaces such as silicon carbide and nitride or polyzwitterionic polymer brushes typical order 0.002. Here, a novel concept using bilayer water ambient air acting lubricant between hydrophilic superhydrophobic surface shown. This method achieves superlubricity down 0.002 measured oscillating tribometer tilting stage. In addition, possible applications tunable 2D mouse treadmill, are

Friction between solids.
The theoretical examination of the friction between solids is discussed with a focus on self-assembled monolayers, carbon-containing materials and antiwear additives. Important findings are illustrated by describing examples where simulations have complemented experimental work by providing a deeper understanding of the molecular origins of friction. Most of the work discussed herein makes use ...
متن کاملFriction and Lubrication
FRICTION AND LUBRICATION in sheet metal forming are influenced by such parameters as material properties, surface finish, temperature, sliding velocity, contact pressure, and lubricant characteristics. The parameters that affect friction and lubrication are schematically shown in Fig. 7.1. Depending on these parameters, the performance of a lubricant and the coefficient of friction (COF) vary. ...
متن کاملRolling Friction and Adhesion between Smooth Solids
Rolling friction has been explained in terms of crack propagation through an adhesive joint. The contact between a smooth cylinder and flat has been regarded as an adhesive junction bounded by two cracks moving in the same direction at the same speed, one crack continually opening and one closing. Propagation of these cracks requires a force which is calculated from crack theory and shown to be...
متن کاملLubrication of soft viscoelastic solids
Lubrication flows appear in many applications in engineering, biophysics, and in nature. Separation of surfaces and minimisation of friction and wear is achieved when the lubrication fluid builds up a lift force. In this paper we analyse soft lubricated contacts by treating the solid walls as viscoelastic: soft materials are typically not purely elastic, but dissipate energy under dynamical loa...
متن کاملSuperhydrophobic Friction Reduction Microtextured Surfaces
Superhydrophobic surfaces are surfaces with fluid contact angles larger than 150o. Superhydrophobicity can be achieved by chemically modifying the surface or introducing texturing which increases the real or effective area of the surface. In this work we focus on the latter approach. If the texturing leads to a Cassie nonwetting state, the surface can also exhibit drag reduction characteristics...
